South Pasadena Community Garden

The South Pasadena Community Garden enables residents to grow organic fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs, and to work and learn together as we nurture our community.

Building Community Since 2015

Starting as a vacant Caltrans lot, South Pasadena’s only community garden now has 42 beds (including 3 ADA beds) available for rent to City residents.   The Garden contains many features that enrich both our plot holders and the larger community, including fruit trees and herb beds, a children’s garden, a compost system, an evolving pollinator garden, and an active year-round program growing and delivering food to local food banks.  We hold monthly community work days and conduct public events with organizations such as the South Pasadena Library and South Pasadena Beautiful.

Having a plot at the Community Garden has been extremely rewarding.  Watching a garden grow and harvesting the fruits of your labor is very satisfying. I enjoy working the community days and discussing gardening tips with my fellow gardeners/friends. The Community Garden also gives us an opportunity to help others by making Food Bank donations.

“My child has grown up in the garden and he loves participating in community workdays. His preschool teachers report that he has translated these skills to the outdoor classroom, where he is an avid weeder!”

South Pasadena Community Garden has provided the opportunity to learn from others and experiment—to fail and find many successes.
